UNSW Wandering Society
Whilst managing UNSW Campus Runners marketing, I also took on a same-level role in UNSW Wandering Society, a bushwalking and urban walking society that values meaningful conversations, wholesome memories and people who either want to walk silently or meet new people. As their Marketing Director, I shared their vision and I wanted to extensively innovate and stretch that vision. The mascot of WanderSoc is a cute water dragon, symbolizing a connection to Earth and guardianship of the ocean. Their branding gives off a soft, subtle, refreshing vibe, simple yet uniquely adventurous. It is not a loud club, but one loud in meaningful memories.'
The hardest part for me was managing and communicating with the Marketing Subcommittee. However, what helped spark their enormous insights and creativity was providing motivation and regular check-ins. I organised a Subcom and Exec dinner, held fortnightly meetings, and sent clear, concise instructions and healthy encouragement and feedback. I didn’t want to just see them as subcom, but as a team to communicate decisions with - something I applied in both societies at similar times. I also initiated the branding tab on Canva to make it easier for our team to access a Branding Kit.
I also designed the WanderSoc T-shirt. The process included consultation and feedback from both execs and subcoms, and it is now seen in many WanderSoc photos. The map on the WanderSoc shirt is of La Perouse, the first walk WanderSoc ever did and is proud of!
